Position Description: WPC Oral History Intern
Primary Point Person: Program Manager
Work Location: Combination of Remote and In Office
Purpose: 2013 marks the Washington Peace Center’s 50th anniversary. Since 1963, we have been active on many fronts: from opposing the Vietnam War and acting as the main local office for draft counseling in the 1960’s; to confronting the US government's interventionist policy in Latin America in the ’80's; to working on local racial and economic justice issues and opposing the first Gulf War in the ’90’s.
A major goal for the Peace Center during this year is to reconnect with our history and make it vibrant and relevant for activists today. The person in this position will strengthen our capacity to do this by undertaking large portions of our planned Oral History Project, including, but not limited to, scheduling, preparing, conducting, and transcribing (parts of) the interviews.
Responsibilities & Duties: This person’s core responsibilities will include arranging logistics for interviews, doing the research and preparation for interviews, running recording equipment during the interviews, transcribing interviews and eventually conducting interviews solo.
- Passionate about social movement history
- Experience in research, particularly online
- Attention to detail
- Proven ability to work independently, but still able to work effectively within a team setting when necessary
- Passion for oral histories
- Experience planning and conducting interviews
- Experience with audio/video recording and editing
16-24 hours a week from early-mid May to mid/late July, as established at hiring.
Intern is expected to spend a minimum of one day in the office.
